Built by theater impresario Oscar Hammerstein I, the Met opened as the Philadelphia Opera House in 1908. It was later sold to the Metropolitan Opera House and functioned as a venue for opera companies from 1910 to 1934. Between 1934 and 1988 the building was multi-purpose and no longer hosted live performances. It was purchased by reverend Theo Jones who used the opera house as the base for his congregation. In 1996 Reverend Mark Hatcher purchased the property to host his Holy Ghost Headquarters Revival Center, and spent nearly $5M stabilizing the building. Developer Eric Blumenfeld (also developer of the Divine Lorraine) in partnership with Hatcher and Live Nation spent $45M renovating the property which opened in December of 2018 as a mixed-use concert venue.
